Q&A - Dedicated server
What is a dedicated server and how does it differ from SCS's Convoy mode?
The main difference lies in the fact that a dedicated server is accessible continuously without interruption (except for exceptional closures for maintenance, for example). An SCS Convoy mode server needs to be hosted temporarily by one of the participants. The server closes as soon as the host leaves the game.
How many slots are available?
Technically, the server can host up to 128 players simultaneously. So you can invite all your friends, all your family and even your neighbours if you like.
How can I see the 128-player servers?
SCS Software allows you to change the 8 slot limit to a maximum of 128 slots per server. To be able to view servers with more than 8 slots, you need to change a small line in your congif.cfg file located in your My Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder. On line 28, entitled uset g_max_convoy_size, replace the value ‘8’ with ‘128’. And save before closing, of course.
You can also change this parameter via the in-game console using this command: ‘g_max_convoy_size 128’
How do I access the official Grand Utopia server?
To do this, first make sure you have changed the value mentioned above. Without this change, the server will not be displayed in the in-game list.
Next, you can search manually or via the search bar for the server name ‘(PUBLIC) Grand Utopia - Official’, but the quickest and easiest way is to search by session ID, which is: 85568392931609807
What version of the mod and game should I use to join the server?
The server is currently running under ETS v1.51 and with Grand Utopia version 1.16.1.
What about mods?
The only compulsory mod that you must activate in your game is the Grand Utopia mod in version 1.16.1.
No other mod can be added, with the exception of so-called faculative mods. The server has been co-configured to accept them.
I have the Grand Utopia add-ons. Can I join the server with them and take advantage of them?
At the moment, the answer is no. You only need to activate the Grand Utopia mod on your game.
However, I'm not closing the door on the opening of a second ‘Patreon’ server that would allow you to enjoy the entire archipelago between Patrons.
Is it possible to track information about this server?
You can do this via the #server-logs channel on the Discord, where you can check the status of the server (online/off) and connections/disconnections.
